Q

QSFP and QSFP+ - The Quad (4-channel) Small Form-factor Pluggable (often abbreviated as QSFP or QSFP+) is a compact, hot-pluggable transceiver used for data communications applications.

Quadrax - A concentric cable consisting of 4 major components: a center conductor, two intermediate conductors, and an outer shield, all separated by insulation.

Quality Gates - Corrective action and preventive action (CAPA, also called corrective action / preventive action) are improvements to an organization's processes taken to eliminate causes of non-conformities or other undesirable situations. CAPA is a concept within good manufacturing practice (GMP). It focuses on the systematic investigation of the root causes of non-conformities in an attempt to prevent their recurrence (for corrective action) or to prevent occurrence (for preventive action).

Quick Disconnect - Connector shell that permits rapid locking and unlocking of two connector halves.

R

Radio Frequency (RF) Connectors - Frequency range within 3 Hz to 300 GHz used to produce and detect radio waves.

Radio Frequency (RF) Referrence Plane - The reference plane is simply where a Plug and a Jack meet when attached together; or in other words, where the actual RF signals within each connector stop. It is buried or embedded below the connectors end edge. The ˇ§Reference Planeˇ¨ is also known as the ˇ§mating planeˇ¨ or ˇ§seating planeˇ¨ or simply ˇ§RPˇ¨.http://www.xmultiple.com/xwebsite-forum184.htm

Radio Frequency (RF) Connector Type - There is a wide range of RF connectors for every application.

Rated Current - Rated Current is the level of continuous DC current that can be passed through the inductor.

REACH - The European Union issued a new Directive 2011/65/EU on the Restriction of the use of certain Hazardous Substances in Electronics and Electronic Equipment (known as RoHS2). List of Xmultiple products by series - REACH Compliant.

Rear Mounted - Connector insta1led from the inside of a box onto a panel that can only be removed from inside the equipment.

Receptacle - Fixed or stationary half of a two-piece multiple contact connector, usually the mounting half that contains the socket contacts.

Reflection Loss - Energy reflected back toward a cable source when the signal meets some type of impedance on the transmission line.

Reliability Testing of Connectors - Reliability testing is performeed to assure quality and to improve the product life cycle, and lfe. When the environmental condition is affected by regular control, it will reduce the quality of exception handling time.

Resistance - Measure of difficulty moving electrical current through a medium when voltage is applied, expressed in ohms.

Return Loss - Measurement of the percentage of incident power that is reflected back along the transmission line upon striking an impedance. Return loss for connectors.

Removal Tool - A device used to remove contacts from a connector. How to remove RJ connector shielding.

Retransmission - Retransmissions occur when the far end does not receive all of the data that it was sent.

RFI - Radio Frequency Interference.

Ribbon Cable - A flat cable of individually insulated conductors lying parallel and held together by means of adhesive film laminate.

RPN (Risk Priority Number) - Measurement of risk of a process. The sum of the RPNs for the failure modes is the overall RPN for the process. As an organization works to improve a process, it can anticipate and compare the effects of proposed changes by calculating hypothetical RPNs of different scenarios. Just remember that the RPN is a measure for comparison within one process only; it is not a measure for comparing risk between processes or organizations. Calcuate the RPN.

RJ11 - A 4-position modular plug and jack connector system, widely used in local- and wide area networks.

RJ12 - A 6-position modular plug and jack connector system, widely used in local- and wide area networks.

RJ45 - An 8-position modular plug and jack connector system, widely used in local- and wide area networks.

RJ Male Plug - What is the RJ male plug standard. The standard is documented in the Federal Communication Commissions publication 68.500.The standard plug height in the area shown is 8.0010 mm (.315 inch) maximum. The standard plug length is 23.1140 mm (.910 inch) maximum. Plugs may be made longer than standard or adapted for direct use on special cords, adapters without cordage, apparatus or equipment subject to the limitations described in the introductory paragraphs of 68.500 of the Federal Communication Commissions publication. Plugs longer and/ or higher than standard may inhibit the special feature s of some network jack enclosures.

Roadmap - Technology Roadmap which is a regular release schedule every month with the future technology being develop by Xmultiple. The Roadmap includes features primarily driven by ideas voted on by our users and the future needs for connectivity products. Roadmaps have a current planned releases, and links to their respective milestones for new technoloogy. Xmultiple Roadmap Procedures.

RoHS - (Restriction of Hardardous Substances) - A regulatory framework for restricting the amounts of hazardous substances, including lead, mercury, cadmium, chromium, PBB, and PBDE, in materials. The RoHS Directive and the UK RoHS regulations came into force on 1 July 2006. Xmultiple RoHS Certificates.and China RoHS and Xmultiple's Compliance Policy.

RoHS 5 and RoHS 6- (Restriction of Hardardous Substances levels) - A regulatory regulations level for RoHS.

Round Trip Delay / Latency - Round trip delay and latency are time measurements for a network. Round trip delay specifically addresses the time it takes for a packet to go from one point on the network to another point and back again. Latency is the time from one point to another. Latency can be measured for a single element (router) or for an entire network path.
